This morning Paul discovered one of our two day old lambs missing. After some searching for what he though would be a dead lamb, Paul heard a small bleat. Eventually he located where the sound was coming from, the Island in our dam. We are still wondering how it managed to get there.
It was not an easy rescue. First Paul had to pull the raft in from the middle of the dam with the rack tied to some rope and then paddle out to the Island. Instead of letting Paul pick it up in its weakened state it leap back into the dam. It came up with its head covered in green weed. Paul had to relaunch the rescue vehicle from the otherside of the island and paddle hard while the lamb tried to stay afloat. "Pretend it's the Olympics I call from the shore". I couldn't see how the lamb was going to stay above water long enough for Paul to get to it. But this was one gutsy lamb. Eventually the rescue was made and the lamb placed safely on the raft.
But the lamb didn't recognise safety an made many attempts to escape off the raft. These are not smart animals. Paul had to secure it between his feet to hold it in place.
We returned the baby to its Mother who recognized it by sound but was very confused in regards to its smell. Thankfully as it dried its normal scent must have returned and the mother accepted it back.

What a feisty little lamb. I'm so glad you found him so you could tell the tale.
We had a ram who took to the dam to avoid being rounded up by our conscientious red kelpie - poor thing would swim for his life until the dog went away.
